12 Weeks, 1 day today! See the ultrasound pictures from today for a look at the baby's progress. For the first time we can actually see somthing more than just a blob on the screen...there's actually a person in there! Wow!
As for fetal development, he/she weighs about half an ounce and the length is 2.2 inches (as measured by sonogram today.) All of the organs are now developed and will just have to mature between now and birth. The brain is producing hormones, the digestive tract is contracting to practice for life outside of momma, and white blood cells are being made by the bone marrow to get the baby ready to fight infection once in the great big germ-y world. Isn't it amazing how a whole human can be formed in as little as 10 weeks fetal age (12 weeks total)! Who can argue there's not a person in there! God is so amazing!
As for mom, she is noticing a "baby bump" and looking forward to really showing so others will know she's not just "putting on weight."
As for dad, he continues to be supportive and is beginning to get excited, although he'll be much relieved to get to the 13 and 14 week mark and be well into the 2nd trimester.
Dawn has been on hormone injections, Progesterone, as a precaution since we did in vitro in order to get pregnant. Rob has been giving them to her every night for the last 9 weeks. Although he hates needles, he conquered his fears and has done a great job giving her the shots. Dawn is happy to report that the shots ended last night as we hit the milestone of a fully functioning placenta! It is believed she no longer needs the supplements for support of the pregnancy. Since stopping the shots she has not noticed anything different...no spotting or cramping! Neither of us will miss this process!
If any of you has any questions you would like us to answer, we plan to do a video interview and post it later. So, please send us your burning questions and we will answer them then.
Thank you for your interest in our little one. Since the fetal development is complete and there will be fewer changes to report, these journal entries will probably start to get shorter...and maybe farther apart...but we'll report anything new and keep posting ultrasounds and photos. Coming up: a 12 week belly picture!Comments:Grammy: Congratulations from Grammy to be. We are so thankful how God is blessing you and our son-in-law. We are able to hear baby's heartbeat with a device called a Doppler! It's like a special microphone that when rubbed on the abdomen amplifies the sound of blood flow. Baby's heartbeat is in the 160's to 170's...very healthy! It's really exciting to be able to hear it any time we want to check in on the health of the baby. The heartbeat is an indication of fetal health.
Comments:Lindsay: I'm SOOOO excited for you guys!! That fast of a FHR would say that it could be a girl...though the old wives tales are certainly not certain! :)Add a comment:

We are in the middle of week 11 of baby's development in the womb. He or she is slightly more than two inches long now and weighs about a third of an ounce
Hair follicles are forming, and fingernail and toenail beds begin to develop this week. By next week, the nails themselves will start to grow. Movements are purposeful and he or she can do stretches, somersaults, and forward rolls. It'll be a while before we an tell if it's a boy or a girl, but testes are developing if it's a boy and ovaries if it's a girl.
As for mom: She still gets headaches, but nearly every other day or so now. They are not as bad as migraines if she gets enough rest and water to drink. Her nausea is lessening and her favorite food right now is a bowl of Froot Loops and buttered toast. She also prefers Wendy's Spicy Chicken Sandwiches and Planet Sub's Tijuana Taxi. She had only gained 3-5 pounds since before getting pregnant, but her tummy has quite a bit of a pudge to it. She just feels fat right now though. She can still wear her regular jeans but her tops don't fit anymore unless they are a size bigger. She's looking forward to showing her pregnancy and getting out of this awkward in-between stage where she just looks fat.
As for Dad: He says the pregnancy really hasn't hit him yet. But he eagerly makes runs to the grocery store and to Wendy's for mom's cravings. He has been very supportive.
As for preparations at home: We are just in the talking stages of how to make more room for baby. There is a lot to do and time seems to be going fast! We'll start action in the next month or so and will keep you posted.Comments:Great Aunt Wanda: Congratulations and keep us updated.Great Aunt Wanda: Congratulations and keep us updated.'Great' Aunt Pauline: I'm so happy for you all. What an answer to prayer. I really appreciate being able to keep up with all the changes going on in your lives. Love, GrandmaAdd a comment:
