Robbie 3.0

November 2008

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! As we write this, the house smells of pumpkin pie. Dawn has to work Thanksgiving and is baking a pie to take to work tomorrow. She hopes Rob is able to stay away from it tonight during his midnight snack time. We will enjoy a traditional turkey and dressing dinner with all the fixings Friday night with Dawn's parents, most likely followed by a game of cards. We are looking forward to the time together.

We have added some pictures of Dawn and her 16 weeks belly and some updates on our bathroom remodel.

Dawn is glad to have clothes that fit again as she had to go buy maternity pants today. She could no longer fasten her pants and had nothing to wear except sweats and scrubs. She woke up one day this week feeling actually pregnant rather than just fat. She has even had some patients and hospital employees who didn't know already ask her if she is pregnant. Her response to that question was with a huge grin: "Yes, and thank you for not thinking I'm just fat!" Soon she will have to go up a size in her scrubs. She did find one pair of maternity scrub pants last week.

Our bathroom remodel is coming together well. We can now add tiling to our do-it-yourself home remodeling resume. It's a very messy job and Dawn picked a very challenging border/chair rail, but for first-timers we're fairly happy with it so far. We will grout, install the toilet and cabinets and add all the final touches this weekend. Once the bathroom is finished we will start converting the current office into a nursery. On Monday we are interviewing basement remodeling contractors to turn our basement into a more usable space which will include our office.

We will post the completed bathroom photos soon. The next news should include when Dawn starts to feel the baby move. She is now doubting the flutters she felt a couple of weeks ago as being baby kick, as it was so early, but expects to start feeling something in the next week or so. We have to chase the baby when listening to it's heartbeat with our Doppler, so we expect an active baby. Also to come, we will find out the sex of the baby on our 3rd wedding anniversary: Dec. 16th. So much exciting things are about to happen! We appreciate your messages, prayers, and continued interest in our little corner of the world. God bless you all and have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Dawn in response to Grandma:  He does a lot of research and is pretty much self-taught. He reads up a lot before trying a project. He can everything, but prefers to leave plumbing up to the pro's. He is very handy!
Grandma:  I want to know where Rob learned so much about remodeling and does he hire out. We're still praying for you and the little one. Do you have names picked out? Love, Grandma

Well, we have officially started preparing for baby's arrival! We have had a hallway bathroom in mid repair for some time and are finally getting to finish it. If you've come to visit and taken a shower in our plastic-lined tub shower over the last year or two, you will be happy to know we are putting in a surround shower wall. We are half way through this project. Once it is finished we will move on to the nursery and then we are remodeling our basement to move our office from the future nursery room to downstairs.

The nursery will be a chore, because the previous owners used some sort of texture on the walls that leaves little bumps all over them. We'll have to sand down the entire room to make it a smooth finish so my wallpaper boarder of Classic Winnie the Pooh won't look like the characters have acne. Is nothing easy?

Fortunately with everything we have to do, Dawn is starting to need fewer naps now as her energy rises. She still struggles with nausea in the morning and has discovered that peanut butter toast is no longer a breakfast food that agrees with her! So, it goes in the category of peas, most cereals (except Froot Loops), baked chicken breast, as well as most other vegetables...not gonna happen! She still craves spicy foods..the hotter the better. Lately it seems to be frozen bean burritos with salsa. She can still button one pair of her regular jeans, but they are getting snug. She is beginning to look pregnant now and people who know her well comment on her belly beginning to show. She has gained only about 8 pounds in the last 13 weeks, 6 days and she says she feels pretty good about that.

As for the baby, everything is fully developed and it now looks like a very miniature version of what it will be at birth. According to what we read about fetal development, he or she is about 3.5 inches long and is covered in fine little hairs all over. The eyes are moving around, but are still fused shut. The little hands can grasp things and it's facial expressions are already forming. What mom eats the baby can taste, but hearing the outside world won't happen for another 2 weeks (fortunately, since there has been a lot of pounding this weekend during demolition of the bathroom!). Dawn thinks she may have felt a couple of somersaults the last two days. We are almost 14 weeks and the heartbeat has been in the 140's to 150's. The normal range is 120's to 160's, so things are looking good. We won't get to find out the sex of the baby until our next ultrasound, which is not scheduled for another 5 weeks. On our 3rd wedding anniversary, Dec. 16th, we will have a special ultrasound called a Level II ultrasound. This will give us a full body picture of our baby and will hopefully show us the sex of the baby, unless it is a considerably modest little bean. Since, at over 35 years of age, in the OB world Dawn is considered to be "of advanced maternal age", this ultrasound is to give the doctors a good idea of the baby's development and health and to look for signs of genetic disorders such as Down's Syndrome. We opted to not do any invasive testing for Down's syndrome, etc. because we feel blessed that God has allowed us to become parents and will love the baby regardless! We are mainly just excited to be able to get a good visual of our baby so early before birth.

More updates to come on our remodeling projects. We thank you for your prayers and your interest in our little bean's development. Thank you for your postings, we really enjoy reading them.
